  5. Thank you for ordering Electronic Database Administrator 2.0. 
  6. BEFORE you install EDA 2.0, you MUST update your CONFIG.SYS file,
  7. usually found in the root directory (ex. C:\) of your hard drive. 
  8.  
  9. Modify CONFIG.SYS to read:  FILES=35
  10.  
  11. Consult your DOS manual on how to accomplish this update.  You may be able to
  12. use FILES=30 or less or you may need FILES=40.  This varies depending upon
  13. which version of DOS you are running under. Layne Software does not recommend
  14. that you have any TSR's (Terminate and Stay Resident) applications running
  15. concurrently with EDA 2.0.  However, you can experiment with them
  16. at your own risk.  DAC's Lightning 5.5 disk caching utility seems
  17. to work fine with EDA 2.0 but this can vary from computer to
  18. computer.

  20. Layne Software does not recommend that you modify the datafiles of EDA 2.0
  21. with any utility, such as Norton or other ASCII file viewers.  
  22. You could alter the indexing structure of the database and
  23. produce a corrupted file.  Of course, you can use Norton or
  24. PC-Tools (for example) to copy the datafiles to backup diskettes.

  26. Automatic installation procedures have been provided with EDA
  27. 2.0.  Each of these will create a directory on your hard drive
  28. under the name 'EDA20' for which the path will be C:\EDA20 or
  29. D:\EDA20.  Layne Software recommends that you update the PATH
  30. statement of your AUTOEXEC.BAT file to include either C:\EDA20 or
  31. D:\EDA20 as may be appropriate.  Consult your DOS manual as
  32. before.  Be sure that DOS is in your PATH statement.  This is always true if
  33. you used the automatic installation of DOS, but it is a good idea to confirm
  34. the PATH statement of your computer.
